The Word -- Spring 2008

Making the Most of Electronic Communication

The Internet is fast becoming the preferred mode of receiving information for most age groups, and VE PR is increasingly implementing various forms of online communications with clients.

As an example, we recently posted another three-minute video on YouTube.com because one of our national client’s target audiences is seventh through twelfth graders. We have data – even though most of us already know this – that shows tweens and teens go to YouTube.com on a regular basis to watch fun and interesting videos. If they like the video, they can post it on their Facebook account and invite their friends to watch it. It is one strategic, viral marketing method to reach and hopefully engage the client’s key audience.

The VE PR TV production team can help capture any interesting and visual story for clients to help them communicate their key messages. For more details, call or email us for a meeting at 301.581.7298 or laurav@vepublicrelations.com.

VE PR: Giving Back

The Arc of Montgomery County

ARC t-shirt logo designed by Jennifer StrohmVE PR’s Jennifer Strohm supported The Arc of Montgomery County’s largest fundraiser of the year— “Beat the Odds” Monte Carlo and Casino Night in March. The Arc of Montgomery County has been supporting people with disabilities and their families since 1958.

Strohm volunteered her support with strategic public relations assistance and graphic design of the event’s materials including a logo, save the date card, invitation and response set, t-shirt and promotional poster, which were all colorfully branded with the Beat the Odds message. She also supported the organization with local media relations, including a live appearance on NewsChannel 8.

Along with achieving near fundraising records, the event also will be featured on The Food Network’s “Ace of Cakes” program. The coverage came as the result of a spinning roulette wheel cake donation from Charm City Bakery in Annapolis, which is the subject of the show.

Communications Tip

Cutting Through the Clutter: We are bombarded with more information than ever in today’s world. Communication—whether it is written or spoken— has to be clear and simple. Don’t try to roll a handful of thoughts into one breath or paragraph. Break up your ideas so they will be easier to comprehend. Try using direct statements, so your audience can digest as they go instead of refiguring your point when they’re done.

For more communications tips, contact Laura Van Eperen at 301.581.7298 or laurav@vepublicrelations.com.
